On June 6, 2021, I suffered an ischemic stroke while living in Colorado.  I spent 43 days in the hospital with right side paralysis, global aphasia and severe apraxia. I lost the ability to speak and comprehend language, but my intellect is intact. For three months, I was unable to walk and had to use a wheelchair. I lost a lot due to the stroke, including my ability to read, write and my career. Prior to my stroke, I had a successful  career in agriculture.  With the help of Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy, I have made progress.  I am now walking, but I have a slight limp.  My comprehension has improved and I am now able to say a few words and phrases.

Since my stroke there are a lot of things that I miss.  Most of all I miss speech related things, we all take for granted things like talking, discussing, chatting, joking, making phone calls, video calls, normal texting, ordering food at a drive-thru, and being able to say simple commands to pets and kids.  I miss being able to read at a normal rate and comprehension level.  I miss walking and driving with ease.  Due to my difficulties with speech and comprehension, I worry about finding a partner and forming new relationships.

Since having my stroke, I have had a lot of time to dedicate to photography. I am making slow progress, but hope to continuing making strides daily.
